Feasting with Ash Trees
A Workshop with Charlie Whinney

Thursday 2 December
Course: 10.30am - 5.00pm
Supper: 6.30pm
Tickets £60.00
Includes refreshments and a simple supper served in items made during the workshop.

About the Workshop:

Join local maker Charlie Whinney for this day-long course and learn the basics of hand-carving, machining and steam-bending using local ash.

To get you started, Charlie will teach you how to make your own bowl and pudding mould which you’ll later feast from with the other participants. In the afternoon, you’ll learn lots of fun easy techniques, making a number of decorative items including steam bent pendant lights, sculptural bread baskets, and some unusual candlesticks.

After the workshop closes, participants will meet for a simple supper at 6.30pm in The Stable Bar, served in the items you’ve made. Your pasta will be in your hand-crafted bowl and the pannecotta in your mould, all surrounded by the work made collaboratively in the afternoon.

Advanced booking is essential by Tuesday 30 November here.

About the Tutor:

Based on the Cartmel Peninsula, Charlie Whinney makes beautiful eco-friendly objects that straddle fine art, architecture and design. Charlie’s work is grounded in making and ecology and his extensive portfolio includes sustainable art projects, creative community projects and courses in sustainable design practice. The majority of his work is commissioned, ranging in scale from a single handmade pencil to enormous architectural installations for public buildings around the world - and conceptually from very strange books to straight forward industrial design.
