Let There Be Light - Collaborative Product Design (Tutors: Adam Nathanial Furmand, Tom Philipson & Sarah Staton)

A day dedicated to collaboratively designing a wall light to be made and used at The Farmer’s Arms. The workshop will be led by Tom Philipson with drop-in sessions from Grizedale alumni designer Adam Nathanial Furman and artist Sarah Staton.

The day will be moderated by Grizedale Arts Director, Adam Sutherland, who will add some interesting (and not at all boring) historical context about wall lights and the public house.

About this Workshop
Part of the initial public programme for The Farmer's Arms, this collaborative design course will open up the making process and encourage dialogue through the design development process between designers, artists and participants.

Workshop Programme
10.00am - Introduction with Adam Sutherland, outline of the Valley Project and Grizedale Arts

10.30 - Tom Philipson and Adam talk through The Farmers Arms project, and Grizedale’s approach and thinking around design and production

11.00am - Sarah Staton will talk about her approach to design and discuss recent works

12.00noon -  Working individually alongside Tom

1.00pm – Collective Zoom lunch

2.00pm - Adam Nathanial Furman will talk about his approach to design and discuss recent works

3.00pm - Individual design continues with Tom and Adam

4.00pm – Participant will make presentations and feedback to the group

4.45pm – Close for the day and next steps
