Apple Juicing Days — Bring Your Apples for Juicing

Do you have an orchard which needs harvesting or a neglected apple tree in your garden which needs picking? Not sure what to do with your harvest? Well, why not juice ’em at The Farmer’s Arms!

It’s that time of the year where we hire an apple scratter and press and welcome everyone to our juicing days! Whether you’re making juice, cider or cider vinegar, we’ll be on hand to help show you how.

You just need to bring your harvest and enough clean containers to take your juice away. Your apples should be free of major bruises, but there is no need to wash and peel. Around 2.5 kilos of apples (a supermarket bagful) makes 1 litre of juice, and cooking apples make just as delicious a juice as eating apples do. If you have no containers, we will have a limited supply of freezable plastic bottles available for sale on the day. No need to take away your own pulp if you take part, we will compost it at our HQ, Lawson Park.

Our Apple Days are part of The Valley Project’s annual programme which draws together the rich and diverse cultural, social and natural resources locally and making the best of what is here. Mapping neglected local orchards and lowering the food miles of our community by producing juice close to source, we hire the press from South Lakeland Orchard Group with the small donation per litre supporting this cost.

If you don’t have an orchard and would just like to come along and learn more about the juicing process, there will be juice for tasting and a few bottles for sale in our Honest Shop.

The apple press will be available for drop in use. There is no need to book, just turn up!
