“Her music is truly haunting” BBC Radio Scotland

“A voice of milk and honey” Anaïs Mitchell

Chloe Matharu offers an evening of ethereal music intertwined with salty tales from her life at sea as a Navigational Officer on Oil Tankers. Get drawn into her watery world as she lends a voice to the modern day seafarer through her songwriting, harp, and entrancing stage presence.

Biography

Chloe Matharu is a Scottish Indian singer songwriter and harpist from the West Coast of Scotland. Many of her songs draw on her time as a Navigational Officer in the Merchant Navy, inspired by the natural world as experienced at sea. On tour she performs solo with her harp in English, Scots and Welsh. Her music offers “an intriguing insight into a new tradition of maritime folk music with thoughtful song writing embellished by her voice and superb harp playing” – The Herald.

She recently received a Danny Award at Celtic Connections and her album was awarded Celtic Music Radio’s Album of the Year followed by features in The Times, The Herald, The Sunday Post and Celtic Life International.

The Venue

There isn’t a venue more fitting for a folk performance than The Farmer’s Arms. The building is decorated with a fascinating collection of 18th-20th century posters, prints and original paintings with rural and local themes. The collection is curated by Grizedale Arts director Adam Sutherland. The eclectic furnishings include original wooden settles and chairs which have been at the inn for centuries, alongside local vintage finds and bespoke fittings.

Ticket holders can access a 10% discount to our food and drinks menu on the night. Our Wood-Fired Oven will be cooking delicious pizzas from 5pm, as well as burgers and a selection of locally sourced dishes from our kitchen.
