Come and join our Thursday evening pottery classes in The Farmer’s Arms workshops. All abilities are welcome from absolute beginners to those familiar with working in clay.
Taught by The Farmer’s Arms Potter-in-Residence, Francis Lloyd-Jones, over six-weeks students will gain a comprehensive introduction to ceramics covering all the basics from clay to kiln.
Each week, you’ll be introduced to different methods of working including coiling, slab building and throwing on the potters wheel. You’ll be guided through the making process from start to finish – building, finishing, decorating, firing and glazing – taking home your finished products at the end of the course.
Session 1: 3rd November, 6pm – 8pm
An introduction to working with clay.
Session 2: 15th September, 6pm – 8pm
Coiling and hand building and an introduction to throwing on the potters wheel.
Session 3: 22nd September, 6pm – 8pm
Development of work from previous weeks. Turning and finishing.
Session 4: 29th September, 6pm – 8pm
Further making based on development of skills so far.
Session 5: 1st December, 6pm – 8pm
Turning, finishing and decorating your work.
Session 6: 8th December, 6pm – 8pm
Final finishing and glazing.
About the Tutor:
Francis Lloyd-Jones joined The Farmer’s Arms team in February 2022 as Potter-in-Residence. Originally studying Fine Art at Chelsea College of Art, Francis graduated in 2013. He then completed the Ceramics Skills and Design course in Thomastown, Ireland and undertook a 2-year apprenticeship at Maze Hill Pottery with Lisa Hammand MBE. His work has been exhibited widely with recent exhibitions at Make: Hauser & Wirth Somerset, Clay College Stoke and Joanna Bird Contemporary.
