Explore gelli plate printing with Jess Levine as she guides you through the basics with a series of demonstrations and ample time to explore different materials and techniques at your own pace.
Gelli plate printing uses a gelatin-like material as a responsive surface picking up the details of textural items which then become part of the image on the paper. Using acrylic paint, layers of colour are rolled out on to the gelli plate. Jess will provide both manmade and organic materials for you to try out different abstract combinations, but you are also welcome to bring your own materials too.
Exploring colour, design and imaginative uses of materials, you’ll be encouraged to experiment. There’ll even be time to share your work and talk through techniques over refreshments at the end of the workshop.
About the tutor:
Jess Levine has been passionate about printmaking for seven years, with gelli plate printing being her dominant medium. Focussed on making, exhibiting and teaching, she has ran many short courses in abstract art and one-off workshops in gelli plate printing. Integral to her teaching, Jess is a firm believer that art is for all and that everyone can find their own creative voice. She has worked in schools, community groups and wellbeing services supporting vulnerable adults, and has a particular interest in the therapeutic application of the visual arts in improving our mental health.
