Dip your toe into peg loom weaving. Learn how to warp up the loom to appropriate size, different textiles to use and produce a cushion size piece to take home. You will see how quickly and easily a rug can be achieved.
Our half day workshops are designed to give you all the skills you need to be able to start any rag rug project for yourself at home. With plenty of 1-2-1 help throughout the day you will learn how to use the loom equipment, how to choose and prepare materials, and how to finish your work.
During the morning you will complete a sunflower design on a hessian shopping bag using the different techniques and during the session later you will get the opportunity to begin a rug, cushion or smaller project (depending on how ambitious you’re feeling.) One of the smaller projects can be a rag rug wreath ….
You can either bring a packed lunch or a discount of 10% off the food at the Farmer’s Arms cafe.
It will be relaxing and sociable, giving you the confidence to start a project of your own, not matter how big or small.
About Your Tutor
Victoria and Elspeth Jackson are avid rug makers and passionate recyclers.
Victoria taught Elspeth to rag rug at a very early age and ever since, they have taught in England (not yet in Scotland), mainly in the South of England, the Midlands and York. Elspeth will be running her first workshops in the USA later this year.
Victoria is now in the Lake District which gives the opportunity to teach in an area with a history of rug making – a necessity for rural flagstone-floor buildings. Also ‘make do and mend’ and upcycling are so on trend.
