Join award winning designer and maker Tom Philipson in this rewarding and fascinating six-week stool making evening class.
Over six-weeks, you’ll learn the basics of furniture making and make your own three-legged wooden stool. It’s sleek but sturdy design is eye-catching, but it being handcrafted by you will undoubtedly impress your friends and family.
This course will equip you with a breadth of transferrable skills and workshop know-how to then tackle other making projects. You’ll learn how to mark out and gauge, set out and design your stool before covering all the basic hand woodworking techniques including cutting and planing, joining and wedging , drilling and bandsawing, gluing up and clamping, before sanding, finishing and polishing.
You’ll work with reclaimed wood and understand how to sharpen, care for and maintain your tools giving you all the skills and confidence you will need for future furniture project conception and execution.
Students are encouraged to use the self-directed Drop-In Making Days in the workshop during the six weeks to progress their stool project and work on other furniture design/build projects where a technician will be on hand. These workshops are non-booked and work on a drop in basis. They’re priced at £10 an hour plus an additional cost if machining is required by a technician.
