Food & Drink

We want you to feel right at home at The Farmer’s Arms. Whether you’re nipping in or have a whole day to relax with us, we’ve hand-crafted an array of welcoming spaces where you can enjoy a quiet pint with mates, a fresh pizza, a family dinner or just a quick coffee and cake stop.

Check out our Events and see if there’s an on-site workshop you could make a day of too. Our generous car park and spacious gardens make visiting easy, and we offer takeaway options on most of our food.

Walk ins Only. Card payment preferred, no cash.

The Stable Bar

The Stable Bar is one of the most enduring parts of The Farmer’s Arms, a space shaped by both its long history and the local community that fills it. After centuries of being part of village life, it remains a gathering place to celebrate both small and large moments, connect and unwind.

Most Saturday nights it is run by a generous and dedicated team of community volunteers who give their time and energy to keep this historic space alive. Their commitment and warmth are what make the bar feel like a true hub for both locals and visitors alike. The bar is also open on Thursdays, coinciding with our weekly talks programme, and on Fridays for our lively pizza and live music evenings.

Recently restored, the space combines the warmth of an open fire, the charm of a well-loved jukebox, and fresh flowers from local gardens. The result is a bar that feels relaxed, welcoming, and unmistakably lived-in—a place to linger over a drink, catch up with friends, or simply soak in the atmosphere.

Our drinks list champions independent and organic producers. Beers from Cumbrian breweries, spirits from Lakes distilleries plus our award-winning organic house wines from central Spain sit alongside small-scale, local favourites such as Logan Beck Brewery,

Ulverston Brewery, Fell Brewery, Shed 1 Gin and Lakes Brew Co.

Food is prepared with the same care. Ingredients are ethically sourced from local producers, our Garden School plot, or foraged locally. Everything is made in-house, and we cater for dietary requirements and children. Our outdoor wood-fired oven (we built it ourselves!) serves made-to-order pizzas, with takeaway very welcome.

On our bar walls, we’ve hung a fascinating collection of 18th-20th century posters, prints and original paintings with rural and local themes, curated by Grizedale Arts director Adam Sutherland. Our eclectic furnishings include carefully-restored original wooden settles and chairs which have been at the inn for centuries, alongside local vintage finds and bespoke fittings.

Dining Room

The Farmer’s Arms has hosted countless celebrations and events over the centuries. Our Dining Room continues that tradition, as a space for every occasion.

Our Dining Room hosts drop-in workshops, film screenings, talks and other activities during daytime (see What’s On). At weekends and evenings, this characterful space is available for private hires (seating up to 30) with or without the adjoining cafe space (seating an additional 30). Whether you’re planning a talk or workshop, a birthday party, christening, anniversary or wedding reception, the Dining Room offers an intimate and adaptable space, with the additional access flexibility of being on the ground floor.
For something special, our creative cooks and in-house designers can help you deliver a unique event, with bespoke menus and decorations to suit any budget.
