Dan has been working as an archaeologist, largely in Cumbria and the North West of England, for over 25 years. He began volunteering on projects in his local area at 16, before studying archaeology at Edinburgh University, then worked for Oxford Archaeology North in Lancaster, before setting up his own company, Greenlane Archaeology in 2005. He has worked on projects of all periods and has a particular interest in landscape archaeology, vernacular buildings, and prehistoric and industrial archaeology. He is an associate member of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists and a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London
