Native hedgerows are one of the most beautiful features of our landscapes, and a vital wildlife habitat, sheltering and feeding birds and small mammals and offering habitat for insects and invertebrates.
The ancient art of hedge laying remains an important and sustainable way to maintain and improve both young and mature hedgerows, thickening the base of the hedge with a series of pruning cuts, and clearing invasive species (e.g brambles) along the way.
Like so many fieldcrafts, doing it is the best way to learn it! Join us to learn hands-on how to manage and revive mixed native hedges on The Farmer’s Fields using traditional hedge-laying techniques. We will work in a small group of max. 10, all tools supplied, led by experienced tutors.
