Welcome to The Farmer’s Arms, an exceptional inn rescued and revived by Grizedale Arts and the local community.

For centuries this historic hostelry on the edge of the Lake District welcomed travellers, locals, goods and ideas through its doors, but as times changed, this beautiful old inn lost its way, and it looked like it had closed its doors for what seemed like the last time.
Today The Farmer’s Arms is once again a thriving and ambitious rural hub, enhancing the lives of locals and visitors alike with wonderful food and drink, creative classes, fascinating talks and welcoming spaces for folk of all ages.

We make sure that the freshest of seasonal flavours shine through in everything we make and serve. Our menu of delicious dishes features the best produce the Crake Valley has to offer. Our café and pizza menus are available to takeaway too and we also cater for functions and private hires in our dining room.

Stay with us

We offer simple inn rooms for solo travellers & couples, plus self-catering accommodation for up to six in The Farmer’s Loft, an apartment adjacent to the main inn. In prime position on the top floor above our pottery studios, two bright double bedrooms and one twin offer beautiful views over wooded hillsides and farmland. Both short and long break bookings are welcome.

Run by arts organisation Grizedale Arts, The Farmer's Arms offers the very best in creative courses, one-off workshops, talks and events. Our experienced staff team of acclaimed makers and educators, and wide international network, provide opportunities for accessible learning across a range of subjects from pottery to architecture, gastronomy to gardening. We also host group and corporate bookings.

What's on

Our Interiors & Exhibitions

We have been continuously and carefully refurbishing the interior of this Grade II Listed inn since acquiring it in a rundown state in 2021. We favour the re-use and recycling of existing fittings and features, and we source and adapt many vintage furnishings for use throughout the public and staff spaces of The Farmer’s Arms. We use skilled craftspeople and simple, natural materials to enhance this revered, characteristic building.

We believe in everyday creativity, and creativity everyday. It’s our mission to nurture this in everyone who works at The Farmer’s and in everyone who visits us.
