Celebrate National Meadows Day by joining us at The Farmer’s Arms for a fun session learning how to create and maintain your own beautiful meadow, whether you have a window box or a garden. This hands-on event will teach you all about seeds, preparing soil, and monitoring and maintaining your meadow (big or small) to attract bees, butterflies, pollinators, birds and small mammals. The workshop takes place beside the pub in Diana’s Orchard, 3 formerly sheep-grazed fields which were diversifying into biodiversity-rich meadows.

If you attended our 2025 event this is a chance to review progress a year on and see firsthand the impact of yellow rattle on the grass!

The session is led by Karen Guthrie (Grizedale Arts’ Head Gardener & teacher at The Farmer’s Arms Gardening School), who has transformed 2 acres at Lawson Park (Grizedale Arts’ artists’ residency) from horse pasture to an exceptionally diverse meadow across the last two decades.

Other related events this weekend include a Moth Breakfast, Scything Workshop & Drop-In and a Family Bug Safari.

And if you’d like stay over to stay, check out our accommodation for a range of welcoming and affordable options.

Children over 10 years old are welcome accompanied by a parent or guardian
