A 4-hour workshop at The Farmers Arms, near Ulverston. Expect foraging for wild ingredients, using them to create your own wood-fired pizza!

A one-off SPECIAL workshop by Foragebox giving you the opportunity to forage for wild ingredients under the supervision of an expert, before heading back to the wonderful pub, The Farmers Arms, to create a pizza using the wild ingredients you foraged, cooked in our wood-fired oven.

What to expect

Our ‘Special’ workshops focus on specific elements of foraging. Usually this means individual species, but for this session we will be looking at building you a pizza using wild ingredients that you find on the day.

Expect 2-3 hours of exploring the local area, gathering wild ingredients to return to our indoor space to then spend a further 1-2 hours creating and eating your pizza. All of this in the grounds of a pub that serves proper beer – does it get much better?!

Duration: 4 hours

We like to keep some elements a surprise for the day, but here is what you can expect from your foraging workshop:

  • a short introduction regarding the safety and format of the day
  • Discussions covering foraging tips, safety, ethics, etiquette, sustainability and the law
  • a circular walking route taking in different growing environments around the site. Depending on the weather, we may even pop to the sea to get some coastal plants. Expect a route of around 3-4km predominantly on footpaths
  • a closer look at wild species and any poisonous lookalikes by a professional forager
  • a chance to slow the pace of modern life down, meet new people and immerse yourself in a soul-nourishing activity, reconnecting with nature and discovering new flavours
  • An opportunity to hand-pick wild ingredients under the guidance of an expert from Forage Box
  • A guided pizza cooking session, where attendees will have the chance to build their own pizzas, top it with the wild ingredients of their choice and cook it in the wood-fired pizza oven.
  • each course is run in an informal fashion, where attendee questions and contributions are more than welcome
  • After the event, you will be sent a follow-up email containing a list of everything we found and ate on the day. This is purely for reference, but we find it helps people do further research in their own time

Who is this session for?

Considerations must be taken for those with mobility issues – please get in touch to discuss. Whilst children are welcome on these events, it is recommended that any child attending is over 12 years old and that, for each individual child attending, they must be accompanied by one paying adult. No previous foraging experience is required for this event.

You will be asked for any dietary requirements when completing your booking. Please note that our cooking sessions my not be suitable for vegans and coeliacs unless you inform us of these dietary requirements – in this instance, the pizza dough will contain gluten unless we are informed prior to the event.

 

NEED A PLACE TO STAY? The team at The Farmers Arms invite you to spend the night on site camping in a van or tent (£10 per space to be paid at the bar on arrival) or in their amazing self-catering spaces. Breakfast is served in the morning for those making a night of it (highly recommended!)
